A Day of Mercy Healing and Renewal at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage
Today at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage, we were blessed to enter more deeply into the grace of Holy Unction Wednesday. This sacred day always reminds me that Christ’s healing is not a memory from the past but a living reality in our midst. As we gathered together children, youth, and adults the atmosphere was filled with quiet expectation, a sense that God was truly present among us, ready to touch every heart.
I had the joy of anointing the faithful and our beloved children with the blessed oil, invoking the mercy of God for physical and spiritual healing and the forgiveness of sins. Each forehead, each pair of hands extended, carried its own story, burdens, hopes, wounds, and prayers. Through this sacrament, Christ meets each person personally, offering strength where there is weakness, comfort where there is pain, and cleansing where the soul longs for renewal.
What moved me most was the spirit with which everyone approached the sacrament faith, humility, and repentance. There was no rush, no distraction, only a sincere desire to be touched by the healing grace of the Holy Spirit. In those moments, I was reminded that healing is not only about the body; it is about restoring the heart, renewing the mind, and rekindling the flame of hope within us.
As we continue our journey through Holy Week, my prayer is simple: May the Lord grant each of you healing of body and soul, peace in your homes, and strength for every step ahead. May this anointing be a source of renewal, a reminder that God’s mercy is never far, and that His love continues to sustain us all.
