Axios! Celebrating the New Bishop of Kisumu and All Western Kenya, His Grace Bishop Philipos
Today, the Orthodox faithful in Kenya and across Africa rejoice as we welcome the new Bishop of Kisumu and All Western Kenya, His Grace Bishop Philip Mugadizi. This sacred moment marks a new chapter of spiritual leadership, service, and grace for the Diocese of Kisumu.
We received this announcement with profound joy, both at home and in the wider Orthodox world. His Grace Bishop Philipos has been consecrated in Cairo with the blessing and unanimous acceptance of the Holy Synod, affirming his readiness to shepherd the faithful with devotion, humility, and unwavering commitment.

His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa, the representative of the Ambassador of Kenya to Egypt, were present at this historic occasion. This gesture reflects not only the deep respect shared between the Church and the Kenyan nation but also the significance of this appointment for the Orthodox community in East Africa. The Patriarchate, together with His Beatitude himself, has extended the (Μεγάλο Μήνυμα), the “Great Message” officially confirming His Grace’s acceptance and blessing to serve the Holy Diocese of Kisumu and All Western Kenya. With this blessing, Bishop Philipos steps forward to protect, guide, and uplift the faithful with all his heart, mind, and strength.
May God grant him wisdom, strength, and a shepherd’s love as he begins his sacred ministry. May his leadership bring unity, growth, and spiritual renewal throughout the region. And may the light of Christ shine ever more brightly in Kisumu and across Western Kenya through his service.
