Who we are

St Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage (“we”, “us”) is a children’s home, school and church in South Kinangop, Nyandarua County, Kenya. We are responsible for the personal information collected through stireneorthodoxmission.org. We handle personal data in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.

What we collect

• Newsletter sign-ups: your email address, and your agreement to this policy.
• Donations and child sponsorship: your name, email address, the amount and date of your gift, and the child you sponsor. Card and PayPal details are entered on PayPal’s or Stripe’s secure pages. We never see or store your full card details.
• Messages you send us: your name, contact details and anything you write when you contact us by email, phone or the website.
• Website usage: pages visited, referring website and general device information, collected by privacy-friendly analytics hosted on our own website. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising.

Why we use it

• To send the mission news you asked for.
• To process donations and sponsorships, send receipts and keep sponsors updated on the child they support.
• To answer your questions and messages.
• To understand how the website is used so we can improve it.
• To meet our legal and accounting obligations.

We rely on your consent (for example, the newsletter), on what is needed to handle your gift or sponsorship, and on our legal obligations. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

Who we share it with

We only share your information with services that help us run the mission, and only as far as they need it:

• PayPal and Stripe, to process payments.
• Our website hosting provider, which stores the website and its data.
• YouTube, when you play a video embedded on our pages.

We never sell or rent your personal information.

Cookies

Our website uses a small number of cookies to make it work and, with your permission, to understand how it is used. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie banner.

How long we keep it

Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Donation and sponsorship records are kept as long as needed for accounting and legal requirements. Messages are kept as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in every email. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya.

Keeping it safe

We use secure connections (HTTPS) on our website and limit access to personal information to the people who need it.
