St. John Climacus: 4th Sunday of Lent

Climbing the Ladder of Hope With Our Children

The 4th Sunday of Great Lent invites us to contemplate the Ladder of Divine Ascent by St. John Climacus a reminder that spiritual growth happens step by step, rung by rung. At St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage, we witness this ascent every day in the lives of our children.

Many of them arrived carrying invisible wounds:

  • The trauma of abandonment
  • The ache of hunger
  • The fear of uncertainty
  • The silence of grief

Yet, through the love of Christ, the stability of a home, and the rhythm of prayer, they begin to climb. Some take small steps learning to smile again, trusting an adult, or saying their first prayer. Others take bold leaps excelling in school, discovering talents, or embracing leadership.

  • Every act of kindness from our supporters becomes another rung on their ladder.
  • Every prayer becomes a hand lifting them upward.
  • Every donation becomes a step toward a brighter future.
  • As we journey through Lent, may we climb together lifting these little ones toward hope.
