A Joyous Day for the Church in Kenya

The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, meeting at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Alexandria on October 7, 2025, marked a historic and spirit-filled moment for the Orthodox Church in Kenya and the entire African continent.

With great joy and thanksgiving, we celebrate the elevation of His Grace Bishop Neofitos Kong’ai of Eldoret to the rank of Metropolitan, and the election of Archimandrite Mugadizi Philip as Bishop-Elect of the Orthodox Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya.

Axios! Axios! Axios!

These appointments, guided by the Holy Spirit, reflect the growing maturity, unity, and vitality of Orthodoxy in Kenya and across Africa. The faithful rejoice as two of our devoted servants are called to higher responsibility in the vineyard of Christ.

As the Church in Kenya continues to grow in faith, education, and witness, these two appointments affirm the Patriarchate’s commitment to nurturing indigenous leadership rooted in love, humility, and truth.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen Metropolitan Neofitos Kong’ai and Bishop-Elect Mugadizi Philip in their new ministries. May their leadership bear fruit in the spiritual growth, unity, and evangelization of our beloved Kenya and all of Africa.

Axios! Axios! Axios!
May the Holy Spirit guide their every step.
