A Sacred Milestone in Eldoret and Northern Kenya

We dedicate this church to your service, Lord. May it be a place where your presence is felt, your word is preached, and your people are nurtured.”

On a radiant and spirit-filled Sunday, the faithful of the Orthodox Diocese of Eldoret and Northern Kenya witnessed a deeply moving and historic occasion—the Consecration of St. Mark Orthodox Church in Kapsabet. The air was filled with prayer, solemnity, and rejoicing as the church was officially dedicated to the glory of God, becoming a spiritual home for generations to come.

Presiding over this sacred event was His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Kenya and Exarch of East Africa, whose fatherly presence and unwavering devotion to the Church continue to inspire the faithful across the region. This memorable day was further graced by the co-celebration of esteemed hierarchs from across Africa and the diaspora:

  • His Eminence Sebastianos of Atlanta
  • His Eminence Jeronymos of Kampala, Uganda
  • His Grace Bishop Neofitos, the host and shepherd of the Diocese of Eldoret and Northern Kenya
  • His Grace Bishop Silvestros of Jinja and Eastern Uganda
  • His Grace Bishop Nectarios of Gulu and Northern Uganda

Together, they lifted their prayers and voices in unison, offering a powerful witness of Orthodox unity, love, and mission across borders.

The consecration ceremony was not only a celebration of a building but a profound affirmation that God’s Church is alive, growing, and reaching new hearts in Kenya and beyond. The prayers echoed within the walls, asking the Lord to make this church a house of prayer for all people, a place of refuge, peace, and transformation.

“May the foundation of this church be built on the teachings of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.”

As the Holy Eucharist was celebrated with majestic liturgical beauty, the faithful were reminded that this new sanctuary is more than stone and wood—it is a vessel of divine grace, a sacred space where hearts will be healed, lives changed, and faith deepened.

The presence of brothers and sisters from across East Africa, clergy and laity alike, signified the unity of the Orthodox Church in mission and love. This consecration marks yet another milestone in the Church’s growth in Kenya, affirming the Diocese of Eldoret and Northern Kenya as a beacon of light in Christ’s vineyard.

We give thanks for a blessed and beautiful Sunday, where heaven met earth in Kapsabet. May St. Mark Orthodox Church be a place where the light of Christ shines forth, drawing all who enter into a deeper relationship with God.

All for the glory of God. Let us pray to the Lord.
