Fifteen Years of Faith, Service, and Sustainability
At St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage, we joyfully joined the nation in marking Mazingira Day ( a special day set aside by the Government of Kenya to promote environmental preservation and sustainability).
This year’s celebration held a deep and special meaning for us. As we planted 15 symbolic trees within the mission compound, we were not only commemorating Mazingira Day but also celebrating 15 years of St. Irene’s existence a journey of faith, compassion, and service that humbly began in the year 2010.
Each of the 15 trees represents a year of growth, resilience, and hope. The same virtues that have defined our mission in caring for orphans, empowering the vulnerable, and nurturing holistic development in our community.
In addition to the symbolic planting, we also planted over 300 tree seedlings around the Centre and its surroundings. This effort symbolizes our commitment to environmental stewardship and the call to restore and protect God’s creation.
A key highlight of the day was the active participation of our children, who eagerly joined in planting and watering the seedlings. At St. Irene’s, we believe that caring for the environment begins with the young. By involving them directly in the process, we are teaching them responsibility, love for nature, and the importance of sustaining the earth for generations to come.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our supporters, friends, and well-wishers who have walked with us throughout these 15 blessed years. Your prayers, kindness, and generosity continue to make St. Irene’s a home of faith, learning, and hope.
As we look ahead, we reaffirm our dedication to environmental conservation and education, ensuring that our children grow into responsible stewards of creation — grounded in faith and love for God’s world.
Long live St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage!
Long live our supporters!
Together, we grow — in faith, in love, and in harmony with creation.
