A Calling Shaped by Grace and Service

    By Fr. Constantinos Eliud

More than fifteen years have passed, yet one moment remains engraved in my heart as though it happened yesterday. I was a young seminarian at the Archbishop Makarios III of Cyprus Seminary, full of dreams and burning with the desire to serve God as a priest. During his visit, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, walked through our dormitories. As he passed, he paused, looked at me, and blessed me.

A simple gesture, yet it planted a seed that would shape the rest of my life.At that time, I believed my path was clear: to become a priest and preach the Gospel in parishes and communities. What I did not know then was that God had prepared a different, humbler, and more demanding mission for me to spread His word through the daily care of vulnerable children, through the love and generosity of people like you.Today, as I look at the many children who have passed through St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage, I see futures filled with hope. I see God’s grace at work.

A Renewed Inspiration from the Shepherds of Africa

Recently, during the visit of His Beatitude Theodoros II to Kenya together with His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Kenya and Exarch of East Africa, and His Eminence Metropolitan Neofitos Kong’ai my heart was deeply moved.

Watching them walk among vulnerable communities, blessing the poor, comforting the suffering, and offering support with humility and love reminded me why we do what we do at St. Irene. Their presence was not just ceremonial; it was pastoral, compassionate, and profoundly spiritual.Their example strengthens us, especially on days when the work feels heavy, when resources are limited, and when challenges seem overwhelming. Their witness reminds us that service is not a burden it is a calling.“You Are the Light of the World.”These words of Christ are not a compliment. They are a responsibility. To be the light of the world means to illuminate the darkness of poverty, loneliness, hunger, and despair. It means welcoming the broken, the wounded, the forgotten, and the stranger with patience and love. It means choosing humility over pride, mercy over judgment, and service over comfort.

At St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage, this calling is lived out daily in the meals we prepare, the children we educate, the prayers we offer, and the hope we nurture. It is not easy.

But with God’s help, and with the support of people like you, we push on.

    A Mission Shared With You

Every blessing we witness here every child who smiles again, every life restored, every future rebuilt is a testimony to your love and generosity. You are part of this mission. You are part of this light.May God bless you for walking with us.

May He strengthen all who serve with humility and compassion.

And may the light of Christ continue to shine through every act of love we offer to His little ones.

A Birthday Filled With Grace, Joy, and the Pure Love of Children

Today, as I open a new chapter in my life and celebrate another year granted by God, my heart overflows with gratitude. Birthdays often invite reflection, but this one has been especially meaningful because I spent it surrounded by the beautiful family God has entrusted to us here at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage. From the moment the sun rose, I felt a deep sense of joy not because of the celebration itself, but because of the people who make this mission a true home of love. You, our friends, supporters, and extended family, continue to be a blessing beyond measure. Your kindness sustains this work, and your prayers strengthen our hands daily.

A Day Filled With Joy and Holy Gratitude

Even as our daily routines carried on the prayers, the meals, the learning, the laughter today had a special fragrance of celebration. The children, in their innocence and pure hearts, filled the compound with songs, smiles, and warm wishes. Their joy was contagious, their love sincere, and their presence a reminder of why this mission exists. There is no feeling that surpasses the love of over 300 children embracing you with genuine affection. Their smiles are a ministry of their own a silent sermon of hope, resilience, and God’s unending mercy.

A Calling That Continues to Shape My Life

Serving these little souls is not just a responsibility; it is a calling that shapes my heart every day. Each child carries a story, a dream, and a spark of God’s image. To be part of their journey to feed them, guide them, pray with them, and celebrate life with them is a blessing I do not take for granted.

As I mark another year of life, I do so with humility and thanksgiving. God has been faithful. You have been faithful. And together, we continue to build a place where love is lived, not just spoken.

A Prayer for All Who Walk With Us

On this special day, I offer a prayer for each of you:

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He reward your generosity, protect your families,
and fill your hearts with the same joy you bring to ours.
In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thank you for being part of this mission. Thank you for making these children smile. Thank you for walking with us in faith and love.

Happy birthday to me and blessings to all of you.

    With love and gratitude,
    Fr. Constantinos Eliud

    A Joyous Milestone

Celebrating the 30th Graduation of Makarios III Orthodox Seminary

Today, the Orthodox Church in Africa witnessed a moment of profound grace and historic significance as Makarios III Orthodox Seminary marked its 30th Graduation Ceremony, presided over by His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa.

It was more than a ceremony. It was a celebration of faith, learning, service, and spiritual responsibility a reminder of the sacred calling entrusted to those who choose the path of priesthood.

His Beatitude’s message to the graduates echoed deeply in every heart present: “You are the light of the world.” A simple yet powerful reminder that the priesthood is not merely a vocation, but a life of illumination bringing Christ’s light to communities, families, and the entire world.

A Moment of Inspiration for Our Children at St. Irene

At St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage, this celebration holds a special meaning. Many of our children dream of one day serving the Church standing at the Holy Altar, preaching the Gospel, and guiding souls toward Christ. Seeing young men graduate today, strengthened by prayer, discipline, and theological formation, reminds our children that their dreams are possible. That with faith, perseverance, and the support of a loving community, they too can follow in these blessed footsteps.

Such events plant seeds of hope. They show our children that the Church believes in them, that Africa needs them, and that God has a purpose for each of their lives.

    A Prayer for the Graduates

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the graduates of Makarios III Seminary. May the Holy Spirit guide your ministry, strengthen your hearts, and grant you wisdom as you step into the vineyard of Christ.

May your service bring healing, unity, and light to the faithful across our beloved continent.

The Church needs you. The world needs you. Christ calls you.

    With love, blessings, and gratitude,
    Fr. Constantinos Eliud
    Priest in charge,
St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage

A Pastoral Reflection on the Ascension

    By Fr. Constantinos,
St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage

    Blessed Feast of the Ascension

Today, as we celebrated the Ascension of our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ, our hearts were lifted with the same hope that filled the Apostles as they watched the Lord rise in glory. The Feast of the Ascension is not simply a historical moment, it is a revelation of who we are called to become as an Orthodox family, a community, and a people walking together toward the Kingdom.

What the Ascension Teaches Us as an Orthodox Family

    1. Christ Exalts Our Humanity

When Christ ascended, He did not rise alone He lifted our humanity with Him. He showed us that human life, when united with God, is destined for glory.
This means that every child, every parent, every struggling soul in our community carries a divine purpose. No one is forgotten. No one is without value.

    2. We Are Called to Live With Purpose

The angels asked the disciples, “Why do you stand gazing up into heaven?”
This is a gentle reminder that the Christian life is active. We are called to serve, love, build, and uplift.

At St. Irene, this calling becomes real every day in the meals we share, the children we educate, the prayers we offer, and the hope we nurture.

    3. Christ Remains With Us

Though He ascended, Christ did not leave us alone. He promised:
    “I am with you always.”
He remains with us through the Holy Spirit, through the Divine Liturgy, through every act of mercy and compassion.
This is why our mission continues with courage even when resources are limited, even when challenges arise.

    4. We Must Prepare Our Hearts for Pentecost

The disciples spent the days after the Ascension in prayer, unity, and expectation.
We too must prepare our hearts for the coming of the Holy Spirit by forgiving, by reconciling, by renewing our commitment to Christ and to one another.

    Beloved brothers and sisters,

The Ascension reminds us that the Church’s mission is heavenly in purpose but earthly in responsibility.

Here at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage, we continue to care for the children God has entrusted to us feeding them, educating them, clothing them, and raising them in the Orthodox faith.

Your support is not simply charity.
It is participation in the Gospel.
It is a continuation of Christ’s work on earth.
It is a witness of love that reaches beyond words.

As we journey toward Pentecost, I humbly invite you to stand with us to help us lift these little ones, just as Christ lifted humanity to the heavens.

May the Ascended Lord bless you, strengthen your families, and fill your homes with His peace.

With love in the Risen and Ascended Christ,
    Fr. Constantinos Eliud

A Feast Day of Joy, Gratitude, and God’s Blessings at St. Irene

Today, my heart overflows with gratitude as we celebrate the Feast of Sts. Constantine and Helen, the great, God‑crowned sovereigns and equals to the Apostles. This feast has always carried deep spiritual meaning, but here at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage, it has become a day woven with personal memories, blessings, and visible signs of God’s providence.

Exactly one year ago, on this same feast day, we welcomed a visitor from the United States Constantinos a brother who together we share the name of today’s saints and whose presence helped shine a light on the humble needs of our mission. At that time, we did not have a modern kitchen. Our cooking was done in simple, makeshift conditions, and our children depended entirely on God’s mercy and the kindness of friends like you.

His visit helped raise awareness, and through the generosity of many people of goodwill, the dream of a proper kitchen began to take shape. That is why his visit and this feast day remain so special to us.

A Kitchen Built by Many Hearts

Today, as I look at the modern kitchen facility standing proudly at the centre of our mission, I see more than a building. I see love in action. I see the unity of people who believed that our children deserved better. I see the fingerprints of every donor, every prayer, every act of kindness that made this possible.

To all who contributed whether through financial support, encouragement, or spreading the word may God bless you abundantly. You have given our children dignity, nourishment, and hope.

    A Celebration Overflowing With Joy

After the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, our mission grounds were filled with laughter and joy. Although we still do not have a dining hall, the children shared their meals in the open field, turning it into a place of fellowship and celebration. They played, danced, and enjoyed the feast day with pure happiness the kind of joy that reminds me daily why this mission exists.

Your support makes moments like these possible.

Honoring the Saints Who Guide Our Steps

As we celebrated the holy, glorious, God‑owned Sts. Constantine and Helen, I reflected on their legacy builders of churches, defenders of the faith, and champions of Christian love. Their example strengthens my resolve as a priest and director of this humble mission. Their feast day reminds us that faith, when joined with generosity, can build what once seemed impossible.

    A Humble Appeal

Help Us Build a Dining Facility

As our mission grows, one of our most urgent needs is a proper dining facility where our children can eat safely, comfortably, and with dignity. Today they still gather in the open field  joyful, yes, but exposed to weather, dust, and the limitations of our environment. A dining hall would transform their daily life, provide shelter during meals, and serve as a multipurpose space for learning, fellowship, and community gatherings.

If God touches your heart to support this next step, your gift of any size will bring us closer to giving our children the safe, dignified space they deserve. Your generosity has already built a kitchen; together, we can now build the dining hall that completes it.

You Are Part of This Story

Every milestone we celebrate from the kitchen you helped build to the meals shared today carries your love. You are part of our mission’s story, and part of the joy we witnessed on this blessed feast day.

From the depths of my heart:

    Thank you.
May the saints whose feast we celebrate intercede for you and your families.
May God reward your love with His abundant grace.

Celebrating Mothers with Love and Prayer

    Happy Mother’s Day

We carry the joy of honoring the gift of motherhood a love that nurtures, protects, and sacrifices without measure. At St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage, we know what motherly love means to us, because our spiritual matron, St. Irene, was herself a woman of courage, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Her example inspires us daily as we strive to be a mother to the motherless embracing children who long for care, dignity, and hope. Through nourishment, education, and spiritual guidance, our Mission Centre reflects the heart of motherhood: giving without expecting, loving without limits.

    A Prayer for All Mothers

We lift our hearts in prayer:

O Lord, bless all mothers today. Grant them strength in their labors, joy in their sacrifices, and peace in their hearts. May their love reflect Your divine mercy, and may they be rewarded abundantly for every tear, every prayer, and every act of care. Bless also our Mission Centre, that it may continue to be a mother to the motherless, offering comfort and hope to every child entrusted to us.

    Happy Mother’s Day Message

To all mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers we celebrate you with love and gratitude. Your sacrifices, your prayers, and your endless devotion are a reflection of God’s mercy. You are the heartbeat of families, the strength of communities, and the gentle hands that shape the future.

St. Irene, was a woman of courage and compassion. Inspired by her example, our Mission Centre strives daily to be a mother to the motherless offering shelter, nourishment, education, and spiritual care to children who long for the embrace of a mother’s love .

    Sunday of the Paralytic

    A Reflection by Fr. Constantinos

Blessed and joyful season of Holy Pascha

Today, on the fourth Sunday of Pascha, our hearts at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre & Orphanage were lifted once again by the radiant light of the Resurrection. This Sunday, known as the Sunday of the Paralytic, invites us to contemplate the healing power of Christ, His compassion, His authority, and His desire to restore every human person to wholeness. As we gathered for the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, I felt deeply the grace that flows from this sacred Gospel.

We remembered the man who lay by the pool of Bethesda for thirty eight years, unable to move, forgotten by society, and without anyone to help him. Yet Christ Himself approached him not because he asked, not because he was worthy, but because God’s mercy seeks out the broken and the overlooked. When Jesus asked him, “Do you want to be made well?” it was not merely a question; it was an invitation to rise into a new life. And with a single word, the Lord restored him, commanding him to take up his bed and walk.

As I looked at our children and faithful today, I was reminded that each of us carries our own form of paralysis: fear, doubt, wounds from the past, or struggles that weigh heavily on the heart. But Christ comes to each of us personally, just as He came to the paralytic. He does not wait for us to be strong; He meets us in our weakness. His healing is not only physical but deeply spiritual, renewing the soul and restoring hope where it has faded.

My prayer today is that all of us may hear Christ’s voice saying, “Rise.” Rise from discouragement. Rise from sin. Rise from anything that keeps you from walking freely in the light of the Resurrection. May this Sunday of the Paralytic remind us that no situation is beyond God’s reach and no person is forgotten by His love.

May the healing grace of the Risen Lord fill your homes, strengthen your hearts, and guide your steps in the days ahead.
    Fr. Constantinos

A Joyful Day at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage

Today was one of those rare, grace‑filled days that remind us why the Resurrection is not just a historical event it is a living reality. At St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage, joy overflowed as we gathered to proclaim the victorious greeting: Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen.

✨ A Day Filled With Light

From the early morning prayers to the laughter of the children, everything carried the fragrance of hope. The Resurrection is not only about Christ rising from the tomb; it is about Christ rising in us, renewing our hearts, our communities, and our purpose.

Today, that truth was visible everywhere in the hymns, in the smiles, in the shared meals, and in the unity of our mission family.

✨ Christ Is Born in Our Hearts

As we celebrated, it became clear that the Resurrection is not distant. It is present, transforming us from within.
The children sang with a purity that could soften even the hardest heart. Volunteers and staff worked side by side, embodying the love that the Gospel calls us to live. Visitors felt the warmth of a home where Christ is truly welcomed.

In moments like these, we see that Christ is born in our hearts again and again every time we choose love, compassion, and service.

✨ A Mission Growing in Grace

St. Irene continues to be a beacon of hope for the vulnerable, the orphaned, and the seeking. Days like today strengthen our resolve to keep nurturing, teaching, feeding, and uplifting every child entrusted to us.

The Resurrection reminds us that no darkness is final, no struggle is wasted, and no act of love is too small. We rise because He rose.

A Prayer for the Journey Ahead

May the joy of the Resurrection remain with us throughout the season and beyond.
May Christ continue to shine through the work of this mission.
And may every child who walks through our doors feel the warmth of His love.

Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen.
    Kristos Anesti! Alithos Anesti.

Blessed Holy Week, beloved in Christ

Today, as I humbly washed the feet of our little ones at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage, I felt a grace that words can barely hold. The children looked at me with a mixture of surprise, joy, and deep innocence and in that moment, I knew that this simple act would remain in their hearts long after Holy Week has passed. For them, it was not just water and a basin; it was love made visible, dignity affirmed, and a reminder that in God’s Kingdom, greatness is found in humility.

As I washed their feet, I felt the weight and beauty of Great and Holy Thursday in a new way. Today we remember the Last Supper, the institution of the Holy Eucharist, the washing of the disciples’ feet, the agony in Gethsemane, and the betrayal by Judas. It is a day when Christ shows us the depth of His love not in words alone, but in actions that transform the soul. To share even a small reflection of that love with our children is a blessing I carry with reverence.

In the Mission Centre, this act becomes more than a liturgical remembrance; it becomes a living lesson. The children see that the Church is not distant or symbolic it is present, kneeling beside them, embracing them, lifting them. They learn that service is not weakness but strength, not obligation but joy. They learn that God’s love is not abstract but personal, tender, and near.

As I poured water over their feet, I prayed that they may grow knowing they are cherished by God, that they may walk paths of goodness, and that they may one day serve others with the same humility Christ showed His disciples. Our togetherness today children, caregivers, and community became a small icon of the love God calls us to share.

May this Holy Week deepen our repentance, strengthen our unity, and fill our hearts with the peace of Christ who serves, who suffers, and who saves.

    Blessed Holy Thursday to all.
