Nurturing Young Souls for the Future Church

This December, we embark on an extraordinary mission to nurture young lives and prepare them for a meaningful and faith-centered future. Under the leadership of Fr. Constantinos Eliud, at St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage, we have always been devoted to the holistic growth of the children under our care. Our commitment goes beyond providing shelter, education, and spiritual guidance; it extends to equipping them with the life skills they need to thrive confidently and purposefully.

Shaping the Next Generation

As children grow into youth, their need for mentorship, skill development, and spiritual grounding becomes ever more critical. At St. Irene, we consistently organize seminars aimed at building character, resilience, and skills. These initiatives have borne remarkable results, shaping vibrant, responsible individuals ready to contribute positively to society.

This year, as we prepare to celebrate the Nativity of Christ, we are taking this commitment to new heights. Under the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Kenya and supported by our dedicated clergy, St. Irene Orthodox Mission Centre and Orphanage will host a transformative four-day youth conference from December 19th to 22nd, 2024. This event will bring together youth from St. Irene and Orthodox churches across our diocese.

Conference Theme and Objectives

The theme of the conference is “Nurturing Young Souls for the Future Church.” For four days, participants will engage in impactful sessions focusing on:

  • Catechism: deepening understanding of Orthodox faith and traditions.
  • Guidance & Counseling: Providing emotional support and life direction.
  • Role of Youth in Shaping the Church: Exploring how youth can transform communities.
  • Sex and Sexuality: Educating youth on maintaining dignity and respect in relationships.
  • Church Music: Enhancing worship through the beauty of Orthodox hymns.

Addressing a Crucial Need

In rural Africa, over 70% of the population is under 30 years old. Yet, many young people lack access to mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow. By addressing these gaps, we aim to uplift individuals and, in turn, strengthen families and communities. This conference represents a significant step towards empowering our youth to lead purposeful lives anchored in faith and values.
